Make Templates with Procreate

I've searched high and low for an iPad application for making and customizing memory keeping templates.  While there are a lot of options out there, I had some very specific requirements:

  • The text feature of the application had to wrap and scale (lots of apps do one or the other, not both)
  • There needed to be an iPhone version (often, I find myself wanting to create when I'm waiting—without my iPad. But, I nearly always have my phone on me)
  • I wanted the ability to draw and write with a stylus (memory keeping satisfies several creative impulses for me, including drawing and creating my own decorative elements)
  • The output quality had to be high (this is becoming more common, but I've been waiting awhile for this to come with the full package)
  • I wanted the app to have something like the clipping masks I'm used to from photo book websites, Photoshop, and Affinity Photo
  • I wanted it to be inexpensive

A while back, my sister-in-law, Daughn, introduced me to Procreate. She's so good with lettering and drawing and was a fan of the application. But, I didn't think about it as anymore than a drawing application. Until one day, when I wondered if I could push it beyond that. Turns out, you can. Now, Procreate (and Procreate light for the phone) has become my favorite tool for drawing, memory keeping, and creative scripting.

Naturally, I wanted to share everything I've learned about the tool, too. So, using a notebook page from the free supplies stash, I've put together the following video which demonstrates how to use Procreate to create photo templates (for printing at home, sending out to a printer like Costco, or adding to a photo book).

Enjoy!
